Agreement
FediDB (fedidb.com and its API) is run by Pixelfed Inc. ("Pixelfed", "we", "us"). By using FediDB you agree to these terms and to the moderation policy. How we handle personal information is covered by the privacy policy. If you don't agree, please don't use FediDB.
What FediDB is
FediDB is a directory and statistics service for the fediverse, with a community wiki, app and software listings, tools, an API and public datasets. Much of its information comes from what servers publish about themselves and from contributors. It's provided for information only: numbers can be wrong, out of date or reported inaccurately by the servers themselves, and a listing isn't an endorsement. Don't rely on FediDB for anything where an error could cause harm.
We may change, pause or stop any part of FediDB at any time.
Accounts
- You sign in with a fediverse account you control. Don't sign in with, or claim to be, an account that isn't yours.
- You're responsible for what's done while you're signed in.
- Roles such as trusted, janitor and moderator are given by the FediDB team and can be changed or removed.
- We may suspend accounts, or restrict a whole server from contributing, to protect FediDB and its users.
Your contributions
You keep the copyright in what you contribute. By contributing, you agree to these licences:
- Wiki text is published under CC BY-SA 4.0, so anyone may share and adapt it with credit, under the same licence. Credit is given through the page's history.
- Structured listing data, such as an app's links, platforms and categories, or a server's details, is dedicated to the public domain under CC0 1.0.
- Images you upload (logos, icons, screenshots): you give us permission to store, resize and show them on FediDB and in its API. They usually belong to the project they show, and stay theirs.
Only contribute what you have the right to share. Published edits stay in the page history even if you later stop using FediDB.
Contribution rules
Don't use FediDB to:
- add false, misleading or promotional content, or spam;
- harass anyone, or publish someone's personal information without their consent;
- add content that is illegal, sexually explicit, hateful or that infringes someone else's rights;
- link to malware, phishing or scams;
- impersonate a person, project or server;
- get around a review, a protection, a suspension or a block.
Edits may be reviewed before they appear, and moderators may revert, hide or take down content, and owners delete it, without notice. To ask about a decision, email [email protected].
Server listings and managers
Servers are listed from what they publish publicly. Which servers are left out, and why, is explained in the moderation policy. Operators can keep the crawler away with robots.txt (see data sources).
Only verify yourself as a server's manager if you run it or are authorized by whoever does. Verification is checked regularly and can be revoked. Managers are responsible for keeping their server's details accurate.
The API and datasets
- The datasets are licensed under CC BY 4.0. Use them for anything, including commercial work, as long as you credit FediDB (fedidb.com).
- Data from the API may be used on the same terms. Wiki text you reuse stays under CC BY-SA 4.0.
- Respect the rate limits, cache what you can and use a descriptive User-Agent with a way to reach you. We may limit or block clients that put a strain on FediDB.
- Don't use FediDB data to harass, track or profile individual people, or to target servers or their users with spam or attacks.
- The API may change. We'll try to give notice of breaking changes on the blog.
Tools
Tools such as Pub Explorer and server submission make requests to other servers on your behalf. Don't use them to scan, probe or overload servers, to reach systems you aren't allowed to, or to get around blocks. They are rate limited, and we may refuse requests we believe are abusive.
FediDB's fediverse accounts
Messages, replies and other activity sent to FediDB's accounts (such as @auth, @blog and the stats bots) are covered by these terms too. Replies to the blog are moderated before they appear, and we may block accounts or servers that abuse them.
Names and logos
The FediDB name and logo belong to Pixelfed. Software names, logos and screenshots shown on FediDB belong to their owners and are shown to identify their projects; that doesn't mean they endorse FediDB.
If you believe something on FediDB infringes your rights, email [email protected] with the address of the page, what is infringing and why, and we'll look into it promptly.
No warranty and limits on liability
FediDB is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, including accuracy, availability or fitness for a particular purpose. To the extent the law allows, Pixelfed is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for any loss of data, profits or reputation, arising from your use of FediDB. Our total liability for any claim relating to FediDB is limited to 100 Canadian dollars. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.
If your use of FediDB, or content you contribute, breaks these terms or the law and leads to a claim against us, you agree to cover the reasonable costs that result.
Ending
You can stop using FediDB at any time, and ask us to delete your account (see the privacy policy). We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms. The sections on contributions, data, liability and law continue to apply afterwards.
Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Disputes will be heard by the courts of Alberta, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring them somewhere else. If any part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies.
Changes
We may update these terms. We'll change the date at the top and announce significant changes on the blog. Continuing to use FediDB after a change means you accept the new terms.
